FREELANCE WORK

Finding paid, professional experience as a science communicator is tough at the best of times, let alone in palaeontology. Thankfully, my hard work and dedication to the Jurassic Coast Trust has landed me a fantastic opportunity to work for the charity on a temporary freelance basis

As of the moment, I have funding for eight videos themed around palaeontology with a key focus of the Jurassic Coast.

Below you'll find an account of the content I've been paid to create.

PURBECK ICECREAM & MEGALOSAURUS

Purbeck Icecream is one of the Jurassic Coast Trust's valuable business partners, making a variety of delicious icecream where 5p of every sale is donated to the Jurassic Coast Trust. One of the flavors, the "Dig-a-saurus", was inspired by the dinosaur Megalosaurus. As one of the videos which the Jurassic Coast Trust have funded me to make, I was requested to create a video about the Megalosaurus and how it relates to Purbeck Icecream.

A CANDID FOSSIL WALK (FEAT. DR DEAN LOMAX)

For my second video, I took advantage of a prior arrangement I had already made with friend and fellow palaeontologist; Dr. Dean Lomax. This video follows us as we fossil hunt along the beach from Lyme Regis to Charmouth as we talk about our shared passion for the Jurassic Coast

BEHIND THE SCENES AT DORSET MUSEUM

My third video for the Jurassic Coast Trust captured my first impressions of the earth science collection of the Dorset Museum. I also had the privilege of seeing a few specimens in the off show collections.

THE GEOLOGY OF PINHAY BAY

My fourth video installment took me around the headland from Monmouth beach to Pinhay bay. This location is special as it demonstrates the Jurassic Coast's unique geology and is a popular location for field trips

BUNS IN BEER

My fith video saw me catch up with fellow JCT ambassador Mike Green, a gentleman who greatly inspires me and continues to blow me away with his passion and knowledge of the geology of his hometown; Beer

MARY ANNING; AN INSPIRATIONAL FIGURE

With March 8th being international women's day, I created a video which sung the praises of world renown fossil hunter; Mary Anning. I wanted to make sure that the story came from my fellow colleagues in palaeotnology who know what it's like to be a women in science and have experienced the same struggles as Mary once did.

HOW TO FIND FOSSILS

I offered my services to the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre (CHCC), who were very keen to have me make them a short  video which they could have playing on loop in their visitor center. The aim of this video was to give visitors an idea on where they should look for fossils whilst reinforcing the fact that fossils should be searched for on the beach, not in the cliffs. You can see this video playing in the CHCC.
