TALKS AT SCHOOLS & SCOUT GROUPS
After joining as a volunteer with the Jurassic Coast Trust in 2018, I was eager to begin proactively seeking opportunities to grow as a science communicator. The local scouting groups which I attended from my childhood years were still going, so I therefore saw an opportunity to give back to my local community.
IVYBRIDGE BEAVERS AND CUBS
I have organised and run multiple educational sessions which aim at giving young children an insight into the world of paleontology. The first of these was in September 2018, with two of my local scouting groups; Ivybridge Beavers and Cubs. The children in these groups were aged between 5-8 and 8-10 and the sessions I designed were specifically catered to the age of the audience.

The sessions consisted of important themes and topics in paleontology such as morphology, which aimed to help children understand the basic methods used to group similar dinosaurs together into families. This was achieved with the use of laminated activity packs I had designed and printed. I also took great satisfaction in clearing up some misconceptions about what is and is not considered a dinosaur. Needless to say, I wasn't popular after the Pterodactyl conversation!

In 2019 I returned again to conduct a revised version of my activity sessions for some of Ivybridge's other Beaver and Cub troops
FEEDBACK
Feedback such as this is invaluable and I'm incredibly grateful to receive such constructive feedback
ERME PRIMARY SCHOOL
April 2019 saw me present my first activity sessions to a school; Erme Primary. The school welcomed me in to run some sessions for 4 different year groups; years 3/4 and 5/6. This was an incredible experience for which I received some invaluable feedback which will help me moving forward with future school visits.

"Hi Kieran
It was fantastic the children lovied it and were really engaged! Thank you so much for your time. As a school it is difficult for us to leave feedback on social media, but i can say that the children enjoyed the experience, engaged throughout and learnt a lot about the Jurassic Coast!
Ellie"
